The cellular pattern of living organisms is extremely fragile as well as complex, the properties of which are only acknowledged on qualitative basis, inspite of extensive amount of knowledge of molecular biology, related to the structural and functional characteristics of the cell. Therefore, the cellular applications require expertise in craft skills and rational design. Cells are defined as the general building blocks of life, and can survive as an isolated single unit. The single free-lining cells are contained in species such as, protozoa, bacteria and algae. However, maximum number of cells are constituents of organisms, comprising of multiple cells. These cellular components are required to be stored in controlled conditions, even though they can survive in isolated form.
The concept of nutraceuticals originated many years ago. The term was framed by adjoining nutrient and pharmaceutical and can be defined as a part of food or food which comprises and imparts beneficial and medical benefits and can also be used in management and cure of several diseases. The definition is partially overlapped with the definition that of food supplementation. Both, the nutraceuticals and food supplements claim to possess beneficial effects and attribute to improved health of the individual. However, both have different origins. Nutraceuticals are food originated compounds or part of food compounds while food supplements comprise of single substance or are used in combination to combat any bodily deficiency and are used with a scope to fulfil micronutrient demand of the body.
